Mercury retrograde - November 2012

Mercury goes retrograde in November from 7th until 27th. This is a time to reassess, rethink, readjust, re-do, repair...or start all over again!

Be aware of the small print this month and back up your data in a safe place. It’s such a powerful money month with the eclipse happening, you don’t want to realise you've overlooked an important detail in the small print. Patience is a virtue now and who knows, maybe it’s even for the better as information you have not been privy to before is exposed when Mercury turns direct. Especially around the full Moon on 28th November, details, concepts, issues and ideas in this area that were put forwarded or started to emerge around the eclipse are brought to light and come to a conclusion now.
I will be writing about how this retrograde affects all zodiac signs in a couple of days.

Here’s a little survival guide to Mercury retrograde

Do’s
  • Back up your data
  • Have an MOT
  • Double-check you’ve packed the passport...oh, and did you really apply for that Visa?
  • Leave even earlier than usual and leave extra time to get to places
  • Make sure you remember the key to your padlock
  • Confirm your appointments
  • Take information and gossip you come across with a pinch of salt
  • Reconsider that brilliant idea and look at it from a different point of view, who knows what you will find out
  • Think before you speak, you only have one mouth but two ears – use them and let it all siiiiiink iiin. Well done. What was said during Mercury retrograde does not mean that this is what it really means!
  • Remember the old days
  • Reconnect with a long lost friend
  • Reinvest some time in what you started ages ago
  • Upgrade your gadgets

Don’ts
  • Sign important contracts now, especially around property and work
  • Remember, Mercury travels alongside the North node and is tangled up in the eclipse this month so if details are overlooked now, it’ll come back to bite you from behind later
  • Take anything for granted
  • Ignore the small print glance over inaccuracies
  • Throw away your warranty documents
  • Ignore reminder letters from the bank, council, lawyers etc.
  • Believe everything you are told – keep a cool head and be realistic

November 2012 horoscope - Aries

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 15th April to 15th May

My goodness Aries, what a month lies ahead for you! The big news this month is of course the solar eclipse on 13th November at about 10pm GMT just at the end of Libra conjuncting the North node in Scorpio. This is a hugely exciting month, sparking a lot of changes in all our lives.

New moons are new beginnings – sometimes the ones we can’t see immediately – but tied into the eclipse, it’s might be time of powerful change, transformation and a turning point for many of us. For you Aries, the solar eclipse is happening in your solar 7th house of committed relationships! The 7th house is also one the angular houses – one of the pillars that we all build our lives on. Angular houses in the horoscope are dynamic and planets in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th houses express the most action and have the strongest impact. Same with the rulers of these houses. Therefore, an eclipse in one of these house sparks changes not only in your one-to-one relationships but it can also affect your professional life and have an impact on your home environment – simply put, it might impact Aries’ entire life direction. An eclipse is often felt before it takes place, so any changes in relationships or your relationships status could have already emerged in October – in any case, I think you will have had an inkling for some time of what lies ahead. Marriage may well be on the cards for coupled Aries. For the next six months until the lunar eclipse occurs in your own sign. There should be major progress and change coming your way in these areas while the focus remains on your most committed relationships.

Watch out for further clues and progress in these matters when the North node passes the eclipse point on 15th January and for the lunar eclipse in May 2013. I will then talk more about the North node in your solar 4th house next month when it moves into this area for 18 months in mid-January 2013.

If you are single, you have every opportunity to meet someone special around the time of the eclipse. You should feel very excited around this time. You also have the Sun traveling through your 7th house until the 17th November when Venus then follows the Sun’s footsteps and moves into your zone of relating. If you meet someone in November, it may well feel like a fated encounter. Eclipses have something karmic about them with a deep past life connection. However, eclipses also shut out the light, so keep your eyes and ears open and don’t get completely swept away by new offers. This goes for all kinds of relationships -business and personal.

Looking at Vedic astrology, this solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter gives strength, faith and optimism while Vishakha Moons are said to reap the fruits of their labour eventually but only after some time and some effort. With Saturn in the same sign as the eclipse, stability and abundance is forthcoming after a time of delay and some effort and discipline may be required. Again, this relates to your relationships.

For the next two years or so, you also have the great task master, Saturn sitting in your house of committed one-to-ones. Wherever Saturn transits, we need to overcome some challenges to move forward with heaps of newfound wisdom. This is a long-term process with a lot of repeat behaviour that helps you eliminate what you don’t need - or more importantly, what you don’t want – anymore in partnerships. Not an easy task for the typical Aries for whom patience is not a strong point. However, I think you will come through to the end of this transit with a reformed view and expectations of relationships. Often during this transit, couples get married or meet their life partner. Saturn is also exalted in Libra, so the chances are fair…

Early on in November, Mars is still in your 8th house of other people’s money, bank loans and inheritance so if you are already at a stage in your relationship when you’re thinking about opening a joint bank account, the focus may well be on who pays what moving forward. You have also had Jupiter in the 2nd house of your own earned income since the summer. Jupiter is now in retrograde motion until 31st January 2013 (read my blog post on what this means in general). This is a time when we are internalising, stabilising and strengthening everything that has been put in front of us - maybe you’re waiting for a loan or are working more behind the scenes on a new business venture that brings in some extra cash. With Jupiter in Taurus, we are looking for practical ways to apply our new-found knowledge.

Mercury goes retrograde this month too from 6th to 27th November. If you can help it, make sure you don’t sign contracts on the dotted line until the end of the month. But if you absolutely have to, don’t rush things even if the retrograde period starts driving you mad. It’s such a powerful money month, you don’t want to realise you've overlooked an important detail in the small print. Patience is a virtue now and who knows, maybe it’s even for the better as information you have not been privy to before is exposed when Mercury turns direct. Especially around the full moon on 28th, details, concepts, issues and ideas in this area that were put forwarded or started to emerge around the eclipse (new moon!) are brought to light and come to a conclusion now.

Very exciting times Aries, enjoy!

November 2012 horoscope - Taurus

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th May to 15th June

November continues to be a big relationship month for Taureans as your 7th house of committed one-to-one relationships has Mercury, Mars and from 17th November also the Sun passing through AND with the North node keeping the spotlight on this area only for another few weeks until it changes sign in mid-January 2013. This emphasis on the 7th house has been felt since October so maybe you just met someone new and you’re still getting to know each other. Venus is also in your 5th house of love affairs until 17th November so I see a lot of discussion, communication and progress in your relationships. It’s such a very romantic time of the year for you, however, with Mars and Mercury in deep, contemplative but also argumentative Scorpio, there may also be a little bit of tension in existing relationships. Things may get a bit fiery and disagreements may come to the surface. But despite the heated debates, it’s also a passionate time with a lot of physical communication! Debates may evolve around the future of your relationship and perhaps also children with your ruler Venus in the house of (pro-) creativity. Ultimately, a pregnancy could be on the cards with so much physical energy and focus on relationships around.

If you are single, it feels like November is certainly the month when you decide to put the energy into meeting someone new. You have every opportunity to do so, just keep an open mind. Autumn is always the time of the year for Taureans when their attention turns more outwards towards one-tone relationships. The full moon at the end of the month puts the spotlight on your relationship axis and is a represents a point of culmination. Things come out in the open and find its natural conclusion. In practice, this means that you finally decide to commit to one particular relationship or someone special enters your life.

However, if anything does indeed need to be discussed in your one-to-one relationships, do it before Mercury goes retrograde from 7th November for three weeks. Mercury retrograde causes delays but it’s also a time to rethink, redo, remake, rebuilt and reassess. Mercury is where we focus our thoughts and mind, so in the 7th house, it’s a good time to make sure what you agree and plan with your partner – the personal or professional kind – is solid and realistic. Mercury then moves into the 6th house of work and health routines. This is a good time for all kind of mental work. Attention to detail and a higher level of perfection now come easier. It’s also a good time to discuss issues at work or communicate better with colleagues and to take another look at details at work or any kind of information you receive or disseminate. Once Mercury goes direct on 27th November and with the full Moon a couple of days later things in all this area becomes much clearer again and things can start moving forward from them on.

November is also a big month for another reason Taurus; it’s eclipse month and this time, the solar eclipse is happening on 13th November at about 10pm GMT just at the end of Libra conjuncting the North node in Scorpio. This is a hugely exciting month, sparking a lot of changes in all our lives. New moons are new beginnings – sometimes the ones we can’t see immediately – but tied into the eclipse, it’s might be time of powerful change, transformation and a turning point for many of us. For you Taurus, it’s happening in your 6th house of work, health and day-today routines. If you are now applying yourself to your work and maybe also physically, it will have many benefits for you in the long-term. As soon as you apply yourself to the task at hand, you will see major progress. With Venus transiting the 6th house from 18th, it’s also an excellent time to build and foster relationships at work which ultimately might help enhance your overall status. Looking at Vedic astrology, this solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter gives strength, faith and optimism while Vishakha Moons are said to reap the fruits of their labour eventually but only after some time and some effort.

With Saturn in the same sign as the eclipse, delays may well occur and some effort and discipline is required to reap the benefits. Saturn is now transiting the 6th house for the next two years or so and wherever Saturn transits, we need to overcome a challenge to move forward with bags of wisdom (sometimes also more responsibility). In the 6th house and in Libra, Saturn actually feels quite comfortable. Although it’s in a slightly awkward angle to your Taurus Sun, Moon or Ascendant that will sometimes feel like an irritating wasp that won’t go away or keeps coming back, Saturn here just makes sure you keep your nose down and focussed on your work. Saturn is also the ruler of your solar 10th house of profession and life direction, so many Taureans might come through to the end of this transit changing jobs or profession altogether. In the meantime, just try and avoid falling into the workaholic trap if you can help it. Taureans are known for just getting on with it so I don’t see major hick-ups unless your work situation is so dire that it is becoming unbearable. In this case, this transit will make sure you get out of there as quickly as you can. One word of caution – this transit can also affect your health. If you have had any worries around your health, these might now also come to a head.

Mercury then moves over the eclipse point on 18th and 19th November, so your mind might then be firmly focused on the issues, news or emerging circumstances which came to light around the eclipse. Watch out for further clues and progress when the North node passes the eclipse point on 15th January, hovering between the area of your day-to-day routines and relationships and pay attention to what’s going on around the lunar eclipse in May 2013. I will talk more about the North node in your solar 6th house next month before it moves into this area for 18 months in mid-January 2013.

November is actually quite a nice month for Taureans, so enjoy!

November 2012 horoscope - Gemini

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th June to 15th July

For you Gemini, it’s happening in your solar 5th house or children, creativity and love affairs. You may help your own children be more creative now, or if you have had a hobby or another skill that lay dormant for some years, now might be the time to take it up on a more regular basis. It also called the house of ‘true love’ so if you are still looking for that special someone that truly lights you up yet, the this eclipse to might attract him or her to you and things can move forward in a very positive way. With the Sun transiting through the 5th house until 16th November, you should be feeling more playful and flirtatious so meeting new people should come easily. However, you also have Saturn sitting in your 5th house of fun for the next two years or so. The great taskmaster here means that you have to work a little harder on your creative projects which require a more disciplined approach now. This includes children but also your love affairs which are no laughing matter for you now. It may also be the case that you start an affair or enter into a relationships with someone who is older and who almost acts as a parent to you. This is not as bad as it may sound as this person may have a thing or two to teach you – maybe this person even helps you make sense of that restructured self of yours and how to apply your new sense of self creatively. If, during this transit and especially during the solar eclipse, you find yourself withdrawn and blocking opportunities for encounters with potential partners, ask yourself why this is. If opportunities seem frustrated, you may somewhere, somehow be avoiding people that reflect your own fears and anxieties. Throughout this transit, you will learn to break down your own barriers and get to the source of the reason why that special person has not landed on your doorstep yet.

Potential places to meet this person this month are everywhere where there’s a lot of fun! Wherever you spend your free-time, at the gym, in a bar or at the art class. The ruler of your solar 5th house, Venus, starts off the month in the 4th house of family and the home, so he or she may quite literally appear at your doorstep or you may meet him or her at a family do. Just be careful of high expectations – Venus moves into the 5th house of love affairs on 17th November where it meets Saturn so someone you meet may cool off a little or if there have been issues in an existing affair, this time may herald the beginning of the end. Alternatively, you may take one particular relationship a lot more seriously now.

Watch out for further clues and progress in these matters when the North node passes the eclipse point on 15th January and for the lunar eclipse in May 2013. I will talk more about the North node in your solar 5th house next month before it moves into this area for 18 months in mid-January 2013.

Gemini’s are going through big changes and transformations in relationships anyway over the next few years (actually until 2021!). Pluto has been in the 7th house of committed relationships for the past seven years, so I’d imagine that intense and life-changing encounters (or break-ups) will have already been something you will have had to deal with. Pluto in this house means that your one-to-one relationships are changing completely – this includes your marriage, long-term relationships and business partnerships. This may have come either through intense feelings for someone or some sort of a crisis. If you have not experienced that in the past 7 years in one way or the other (which I can hardly believe unless you were born right at the end of Gemini or you have your Ascendant in the last 10 or less degrees) then this is still something that should feature in the months and years to come. This transit (as others too of course) also means you are actually looking for someone to help you transform your life, whether you consciously know that or not. Often Pluto transits are connected to psychotherapy so depending on other factors in your chart, this may be a good thing to look into. This should then help you realise that all one-to-one encounters are reflections of your own unconsciousness and inner impulses.

Mars is also transiting the 7th house of relationships this month, so a lot of action and progress is happening here. Mars is where we direct our energies and in the 7th house, it also gives you the drive to meet someone new and get yourself out there. But in combination with Pluto, it’s important to try and avoid power struggles and impulsivity. Mars doesn’t feel so comfortable in the 7th house so don’t let anger and frustrations bubble over and cause unnecessary arguments. Maybe there has been someone in your life who kept pushing you around and you have come to the point where you won’t tolerate this anymore. But this can also go the other way, it’s your chart after all so examine your own attitudes at the same time. In any case, let things cool down before airing your resentment.

Your daily work routine and maybe also your health and fitness regime were also a bog focus for you and this trend continues this month. Mercury is in the 6th house where it joins the North node. Mercury is where we focus our thoughts and mind, so in the 6th house, it’s good for all kind of mental work. Attention to detail and a higher level of perfection now come easier. It’s a good time to discuss issues at work or communicate better with colleagues. However, if anything does indeed need to be discussed, do it before Mercury goes retrograde from 7th November for three weeks. Mercury retrograde causes delays but it’s also a time to rethink, redo, remake, rebuilt and reassess. It’s a good time to take another look at details at work or any kind of information you receive or disseminate. Mercury moves over the eclipse point on 18th and 19th November, so your mind might then be firmly focused on the issues, news or emerging circumstances which came to light around the eclipse. Once Mercury goes direct on 27th November and with the full Moon a couple of days later things in all these areas become much clearer again and things can start moving forward from them on.

A big month for relating and one-to-one encounters, Gemini – enjoy!

November 2012 horoscope - Cancer

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th July to 15th August

A big month for all of us Cancer! The exciting news of course is that the solar eclipse is happening on 13th November at about 10pm GMT just at the end of Libra conjuncting the North node in Scorpio. This is a hugely exciting month, sparking a lot of changes in all our lives.

New moons are new beginnings – sometimes the ones we can’t see immediately – but tied into the eclipse, it’s a time of powerful change, transformation and a turning point for many Cancerians. The eclipse is happening in your 4th house of family, your mother, emotions, how and who you nurture, your past, the place where you live and generally, the place where you feel at home. The 4th house is also one the angular houses – one of the pillars that we all build our lives on. Angular houses in the horoscope are dynamic and planets in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th houses express the most action and have the strongest impact. Same with the rulers of these houses. Therefore, an eclipse in one of these house sparks changes not only in your home and emotional life but it affects your professional life and it can also impact your relationships – simply put, it might impact Cancerians’ entire life direction. For the next six months until the lunar eclipse occurs in the opposite sign of Aries, the focus will be on all of these areas – a lot to take in. Watch out for further clues and progress in these matters when the North node passes the eclipse point on 15th January and for the lunar eclipse in May 2013. I will talk more about the North node in your solar 4th house next month before it moves into this area for 18 months in mid-January 2013.

Saturn is actually transiting your solar 4th house of emotions for the next two years or so. This means that the foundations of your world, your sense of security, your relationships with others and probably more importantly yourself, are undergoing deep transformations over this time. This may not be the easiest time but it is an extremely important time for Cancerians. You will focus on your innermost personal and domestic life and anything you have been putting up with emotionally will come to a head. Consequently, this leads to a complete reshuffling of your home environment, personal relationships and potentially also your job situations over the next 24 months. This may also be a good time to seek professional help to help you make sense of your changing emotions. Saturn at the bottom of your chart also means that you end a period of years of preparation - from a change in who you are to sorting out your sense of self-worth or quite literally your finances to the way you communicate and now, how you feel about others and yourself. It’s time when you begin to move upward again although the process is slow – pay attention to how you build these new foundations in your life and who is part of it moving forward. It may not feel like it right now but it’s a time of new beginnings, especially with the North node about to move into this area of your chart as well with huge changes in your home and family environment.

Until 17th November, Venus is in your flirty 3rd house of communication and Mercury is in the 5th house of love affairs. There might be a stunning connection with someone you meet early on in the month. However, Mercury then goes retrograde from 7th November and in the 5th house, this means that with all that flirty text messaging someone or even yourself could get the wrong end of the stick so it’s important to not put yourself  in a situation where you could offend someone. Equally, don’t take things too seriously yourself. I know this is easier said than done at the moment with Saturn now in your 4th house. When Venus then moves into the 4th house and joins Saturn, this combination can highlight a close and intimate relationship that might cool down a notch – give it some time and talk things through.

In terms of your day to day work situation, Mars moves into your 6th house joining up with Pluto. Since May, some of you may have been caught up in a work situation where a lot of your input and effort was. This situation eases a little this month but Mars and Pluto together means that whatever resentment you may have felt now boils over quite easily if this has been building up since the spring. Just be conscious that things don’t bubble over and try and get some rest. The 6th house this is also the house of health and if you overdo it now and your health is affected, this is why. I know it’s pre-Christmas party season and of course you will be out and about but with Venus and Saturn at the bottom of your chart for most of the month, you may feel like staying at home a little more, wrapping those presents.

The month ends with a full moon which, this time, is also a lunar eclipse. This happens across your 5th house of romance, children and (pro-) creativity and the 11th house of hope, wishes, friends and the wider community. Perhaps there is a new child on the way, a creative project you’ve been working on with friends comes to fruition or a romantic interest enters your life. This area will be a particular focus in December when five planets will be moving through this house.

Have a great month Cancer, a lot is happening – enjoy!
