Lunar eclipse in Libra - April 2013

By Athanasius Kircher
Today is the first of five eclipses in 2013 hitting the Aries / Libra axis. Eclipses can usually be felt around 3 months prior to the date and can have a significant impact on our lives. This eclipse affects those with their Sun, Moon or Ascendant at 11 degrees of Aries or Libra or those born around 25th April or 27th October - relationships are highlighted at the moment and with Saturn in the mix, lazy compromises are a thing of the past.

Be careful of the 'it's me or the highway' attitude but if you feel one particular relationship requires one compromise too many, it may be time to go separate ways. If you're single, this can highlight a 'change in status' and a commitment to a new partner.

This is also a good time to visualise how your future should look like. Take one piece of paper and write down what you want to eliminate from your life and what you no longer want - this could be an attitude, fears, anxieties, a situation or even the influence of another person. Take another piece of paper and write down what you want to invite into your life such as a harmonious relationship, a home where you feel comfortable or a job where you feel valued. Equally, you can focus on the emotional side, so write down that you want to be content and optimistic moving forward...and don't forget to aim high! It's only when we limit ourselves that we're not breaking free from old cycles of behaviour and attitudes. Then, rip apart the paper with the points you want to eliminate from your life while you keep the other one to read and re-read when you feel like it - this helps you remind yourself and keep visualising! Another technique includes lighting a silver candle (the past) and a golden candle (the future) as you concentrate on what you want to bring into your life. You then burn the paper with everything the is to leave your life while you fold the paper with your wishes and declarations for the future into a boat that you then 'release' by a river or a lake...have a good eclipse week and let me know how you're getting on during these exciting times!

May 2013 horoscope - Aries

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 14th April to 15th May or Aries Ascendants or Moons

By Louise Gilbert
Aries, it’s still your birthday month, so happy birthday! You start off May 2013 with The Sun, Mars, Mercury and Venus in your sign. Wow, rarely do so many planets gather in one sign and after what would have been a challenging April to say the least, you are ready to come out of your cocoon. You are attractive, energetic and particularly driven as you emerge from your annual hibernation phase during the weeks just before your birthday. For most of us, April 2013 was one of the more intense months of the year so far with the first of the eclipses affecting certain areas in our lives and with the ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus being exact at the end of April. For you Aries, this lunar eclipse was all about relationships. Although, I would love to have said in my April forecast that it was an entirely positive eclipse, I fear that especially for coupled Aries, this lunar eclipse brought many existing situations, the status quo  or entire liaisons to an end. In particular those born around 27th – 30th April or with their Moon sign or Ascendants at around 14 degrees of Aries would experienced a good dose of Saturn in opposition over the past 6 or so months demanding that you put up the right barriers up in relationships and that you make it clear what you expect from a partner. Although Aries is a very strong and independent sign, when it comes to relationships – ruled by Venus in your case – you are keen to keep the balance and in the past, perhaps to your own detriment. This applies not just to relationships of the romantic kind but all situations where you are one-to-one with another person, so also professional relationships. No more! You probably know what I’m talking about already so wasn’t Saturn’s arrival in your opposite sign a blessing in disguise already!

With so many planets transiting your sign for approximately the first 10 days of the month, you finally understand what it is you need and hopefully also how to get it.

Aries, for you as well as the other cardinal signs, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn, it is still a time of powerful change, transformation and a turning point. But as opposed to April where there was so much focus on letting go and re-establishing your trust in the universe that things will work out for you eventually, May should feel more like a month of new beginnings and progress rather than sudden developments that take you by surprise.

So, the ongoing stellium in Aries promises a lot of quick action and reaction, determination and hopefully progress where your plans are concerned. Although, in the background, you will still need to focus on your interaction with your important other but on the whole, romantically and financially, May is a stellar month for you. Now, if you are single, then the eclipses and current transits are put you in a unique position. You are in the firing line when it comes to finding new love this month. It’s a month of action and initiative so you shouldn’t have any problems mingling and meeting new people. All of this is greatly enhanced if your Ascendant is in Aries.

All of this is leading up to the solar eclipse this month which takes place on 10th May. Generally speaking, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon stands between the Sun and Earth. This means that a solar eclipse is always a new Moon, marking new beginnings. However, a new Moon also cuts off the light of the Sun, so whatever is beginning now, may not carry all the details that you need to make informed decisions and really understand what it is that is coming into your life now. As with the lunar eclipse, solar eclipses bring in life’s big events – a marriage or divorce, birth or pregnancy, a house sale or purchase or an important trip. Whatever it is, things are progressing swiftly now and the planets are intent on pushing you towards your next step. Although this also means that something has to end before something new can come in, the emphasis really is more on the beginning than the finish – you’ve done that with the lunar eclipse at the end of April. Whatever is beginning now could be phased in over a period of months and you should expect to reap the rewards of the seeds sown around the time of the next lunar eclipse in October and until February 2014 when you will reach another milestone. Some if might come as a surprise. If the lunar eclipse aspects your Sun, there may be changes in the job on the card as it has to do with authority figures but if your Ascendant is involved, the a new cycle in your love life is on the cards. Sometimes when one relationship ends, another one comes in very quickly and unexpectedly and this month could just present you with one of these experiences. You have been ready for a new start for a long time, so enjoy!

In terms of vedic astrology, this solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Bharani, ruled by the Venus, which will be transiting through her own sign of Taurus. The nakshatra of Bharani has an understanding and a sixth sense for the acquisition of accrued wealth but this nakshatra also represents the person who ‘carries and bears’. For you this may mean that although new opportunities around relationships  appear, it could at the same time result in more responsibility towards a partner, but also towards yourself, especially if you are in a relationship. Remember what you’ve learned already with Saturn on opposition over these past months!

And then it’s all about the money in the bank. The Sun, Mercury and Venus move on to join Jupiter in your 2nd house of income.  This should really be a beautiful time that makes what you’ve work on up to this point in May more solid. In fact, it may even be a culmination point of all the effort you’ve put in over the past year when it comes to building your finances – which was one of the major areas of focus for you. Venus in her own sign conjunct Jupiter can really bring you some good opportunities and with Mercury helping you communicate what you want financially, you may be able to negotiate a great pay package if you are currently looking for a new job. The lunar eclipse on 25th May brings any doubts or a period of waiting for an answer to an end. You’ll then know where you are and can move forward. This is a conclusion of what began in November 2011. So, if you have been stuck financially – or in some cases, romantically – since then, this time period should see this situation coming to an end or at the very least, you know you’ve done everything you can to solve the issue and you can move on.

Equally, Venus is the planet that rules your area of relationships and feel much more comfortable in Taurus than in Aries so together with Jupiter, there should be new optimism and contentment in this area of your life. If you are single then, this should be a happy time for you – the recipe to attracting someone who values you the same way you do!

Have an exciting month, Aries!

May 2013 horoscope - Taurus

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th May to 15th June of Taurus Ascendants and Moons

By Louise Gilbert
Taurus, over the past weeks, you may have felt a need to turn inward for a period of time to listen to what your dreams are telling you and that inner voice that guides you intuitively. Perhaps you had less energy than you usually do and others may have been drawn to you instinctively for advice, guidance or simply an open ear during this period when your empathy levels are higher than usual. As you finish off April and head into May, this inward turning process still continues for a little while as you gather your energies before you start your new solar year. You may feel as though your shots on target were like throwing stones into a bottomless pitch – in particular if the demands of daily life including increased responsibilities at work or some niggly health concerns keep you from building on your success. In addition, Neptune in your house of life direction and career is also adding to the slightly intangible nature of things around you at the moment. However, all this energy is making you more creative, receptive and empathetic and if you have been thinking about changing career, then perhaps have a think about how you can apply these softer touches in the future.

So, as we enter May, very soon, you will feel a change in the air. We have seen a lot of sudden events, explosions and anger across the world over these past weeks during the stellium in Aries but as planets move into Taurus, a more peaceful time should be upon us. Although I say peaceful, all of us are still feeling the intensity of April which was one of the more intense months of the year so far with the first of the eclipses and with the ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus being exact. For you Taurus, this square affects your friends and associates but also how you earn your money as well as resources other people make available to you and you can make use of. This is a time of powerful change, transformation and a turning point for many of us and as we enter May, you should feel like a new cycle starts for you and progress is in the air once again rather than sudden developments that take you by surprise. As more and more planets gather in your signs, all the focus is on you – you may feel more attractive with the drive and energy to start implanting the plans you’ve hatched over the past weeks. These transits also have a positive effect on your love life and if you have been unsure of your relationship recently, you should be able to gain more clarity now. You attract a lot of good to you now, so choose wisely.

While opportunities in many walks of life are there for you now, I feel that it is your vocation and life direction that hold your attention now. As you underwent some fairly big changes over the past year – in all likelihood, you’ll only realise this now to what extent your life expanded – you are now looking how to make the most of these opportunities and the new vision for your life you’ve developed. Over the course of May, as planets move through the sign of Taurus and Jupiter gets ready to depart your sign and into your money house, your financial plans, hopes and dreams should be coming together as from June onwards all your money houses are activated for another year.

The solar eclipse on 10th May in your house of day to day activities, work and health kick starts you into starting afresh when it comes to your daily habits and how you go about your business – including your place of work. This means that you can make productive changes now in this area and implement new routines. Alternatively, and I’ve mentioned this before, the 6th house where the solar eclipse take place, is also the house of conflict and disagreements when it comes to marriage and other committed relationships. With so much focus on yourself at the moment (in the most positive sense!), you may even find yourself deciding to start afresh and without your current partner. However, much of this will also depend on the dasha period you are currently going through, not just the transits.

This solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Bharani, ruled by the Venus, which will be transiting through her own sign of Taurus. The nakshatra of Bharani has an understanding and a sixth sense for the acquisition of accrued wealth but this nakshatra also represents the person who ‘carries and bears’. For you this may mean that although new opportunities around your health and work routines appear, it could at the same time result in more responsibility towards those in need. If you have pets, then this may also apply to them now!

As the Sun, Mercury, Venus are conjunct Jupiter at the end of the month, this should really be a beautiful time that makes what you’ve work on up to this point in May ‘more solid’. Especially those Taureans born during the last five days in May or with their Ascendant or Moon signs at around 10 – 15 degrees of Taurus will feel this uplifting energy the most before Jupiter departs your sign before he returns in 12 years’ time. The lunar eclipse will put the spotlight on your relationships and again, either turn existing partnerships into something rock solid or, if necessary, bring those partnerships on the rocks to an end. As a Taurus, you often find it hard to let go but the lunar eclipse may almost force you to make a decision and if it doesn’t come from you, then it may be your partner initiating the break. This lunar eclipse really favours those who are single as it signifies a change in your current status so the end of May could see you enter into a new, significant relationship.

…..just remember, there are a mixture of energies in place – kind of an ‘overabundance’ of energies that can make you go overboard in terms of expectations on yourself and others.

Have a fabulous birthday month, Taurus

May 2013 horoscope - Gemini

I follow the vedic calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th June to 15th July or Gemini Ascendants and Moons

By Louise Gilbert
Gemini, as you go through the year, you continue to experience moments of restlessness and sudden urges to become more independent in your career and most likely your life in general.  If partners or authority figures become too demanding and controlling, you are looking to make a swift exit – no one tells a Gemini how to spend their days at the moment. As you continue on your quest to find the right balance between independence and balanced one-to-one partnerships, early May 2013 also presents an opportunity to redefine your goals and hopes for the future before you wind down your solar year.

On the one hand, this can be a very social time packed with lots of networking, group activities, hobbies and generally spending some time with your friends. This month in particular, there may even be a good chance of some extra income or a bonus coming your way, not only from all your efforts over the past year but from activities, initiations and projects or perhaps simply from how you applied yourself in your job and if you are self-employed, as many Gemini Ascendants prefer to be at the moment, how you managed to expand your client base over these past weeks. On the other hand, however, you may feel a kind of a push and pull energy between your groups of friends and your wider network versus who you are or who you want to be. Or between being the social butterfly you are versus spending time with your partner; your between future direction including responsibilities towards the wider community, network or group interactions in general versus how you really want to express yourself as an individual within these groups and through your creative projects.

The ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus which was exact at the end of April added some extra tension as you continue to contemplate whether or not to stay in your career or change profession entirely and follow your dreams. The first week in May, with the stellium in Aries promises a lot of quick action and reaction, determination and hopefully progress where your life goals are concerned and making decisions about them. The lunar eclipse at the end of April may have brought some desires to the surface that you can no longer ignore. Equally, the end of April would also have been a time of completing work projects and reaping the rewards for those. While you value your independence immensely, you are also hugely creative at the moment with sudden insights and inspirations that make you stand out from the crowd. Nevertheless, this was a time of completion of something – a certain, long-term work project or an association with a certain group of people.

The solar eclipse takes place on 10th May, in addition to another lunar eclipse on 25th May. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon stands between the Sun and Earth. The emphasis really is more on the beginning than the finish – you’ve done that with the lunar eclipse at the end of April. Whatever is beginning now could be phased in over a period of months and you should expect to reap the rewards of the seeds sown around the time of the next lunar eclipse in October and until February 2014 when you will reach another milestone. For you this has primarily to do with the people you mix with on the one hand and setting yourself up on the path to achieving your life goals including those of the financial kind.

In terms of vedic astrology, this solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Bharani, ruled by the Venus, which will be transiting through her own sign of Taurus. The nakshatra of Bharani has an understanding and a sixth sense for the acquisition of accrued wealth but this nakshatra also represents the person who ‘carries and bears’, mainly the consequences. For you this may mean that although new opportunities around your goals and financial and spiritual gains appear, new developments could, at the same time, result in more responsibility towards others.

Of course partnerships are part of your goals but romance seems to have been more difficult to come by of late and the concept of a committed partnership appeared more intangible and theoretical than a realistic possibility. As The Sun, Mercury, Venus join Jupiter in your house of behind the scenes and letting go, you contemplate what’s next for the remainder of the month and what it is you would like to achieve over the course of the next 12 months. Once Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and expansion, moves into your 1st house at the end of May, a long-awaited boost of energy and optimism enters your world after the possible tension of the past year is likely to have left you a little drained. All of this is closely linked to partnerships, so watch this space.

Have a reflective month, Gemini!

May 2013 horoscope - Cancer

I follow the vedic calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th July to 15th August or Cancer Ascendants and Moons

By Louise Gilbert
Cancer, the focus on your career and profession remains as we head into May and after the lunar eclipse at the end of April, which in all likelihood introduced some significant changes to your professional life, you are ready to seize some of the opportunities that May holds in store. April 2013 was one of the more intense months of the year so far with the first of the eclipses affecting this area in your life and with the ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus being exact at the end of April.

Rarely do so many planets gather in one sign at the same time as they do in May and if you are planning to change jobs, you may find yourself in discussions with potential employers or negotiating your promotion and salary package with your current boss. For the first week in May, the stellium in Aries promises a lot of quick action and reaction, determination and hopefully progress where your career or your true calling is concerned.  Although there may still be some obstacles and some pushing and pulling in terms of combining these opportunities with your living situation or your own sense of not having enough emotional support to achieve what you want to achieve at the moment. However, although it is still a time of powerful change, transformation and a turning point for many Cancerians, it should feel more like a month of new beginnings and progress rather than more, sudden developments that take you by surprise. You now know what the next steps should be and it’s unlikely you want to hold yourself back further. Even though Cancerians appear to be one of the ‘weaker’ in need for someone to look after them, they are in fact, some of the most ambitious and independent people out there when it comes to their professional life. So, if recently thought about setting up shop by yourself, go for it – it’s likely you’ll achieve more and quicker. As new professional opportunities are knocking on your door, the solar eclipse on 10th May, and especially the days after, are the best time to start afresh, launch your business and seriously think about how to increase your client base. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon stands between the Sun and Earth. However, a new Moon also cuts off the light of the Sun, so whatever is beginning now, may not carry all the details that you need to make informed decisions and really understand what it is that is coming into your life now – so kick-start any campaigns, start looking around for new positions or the best people to help you launch your business.

Once the eclipse has passed, things start accelerating swiftly and over the course of the two weeks after, leading on to the lunar eclipse on 25th May, you’ll very quickly have a good idea of what exactly it is that’s falling into place now. Whatever is beginning now could be phased in over a period of months and you should expect to reap the rewards of the seeds sown around the time of the next lunar eclipse in October and until February 2014 when you will reach another milestone.

For you this may mean that although new job opportunities appear, these could all have a good deal more responsibility attached to them and written in the contract.

But although all the emphasis around income and your position at work is keeping you on your toes a more fundamental and long-term shift is taking place. Saturn is still going through your house of emotions, home, your past and family. This can feel a bit like you’re ready to jump and move on to bigger and better places but something is holding you back. Saturn may temporarily cause some emotional anxiety and transiting through the 4th house, the lowest point in your chart, may literally make you feel as through you’ve hit rock bottom. This transit also indicated that your home life may feel somewhat restricted and ‘cold’ as you are required to make some fundamental changes about where and with whom you’ll share the dinner table moving forward. By the time the lunar eclipse comes round on 25th may, you’ll know more and you’re ready – perhaps quite literally – to make your move.

Around the same time, at the end of May, the Sun, Mercury and Venus join up with Jupiter in your house of friends, networks and gains. This a very social and outgoing time with new people around you that can help you further your career or introduce you to those will do so in the future. If you are single and looking, then these transits should be a welcome respite from all the tension you may have been feeling lately.

It can also be a gainful time for you if you play your cards right. Perhaps you’ve already found yourself in professional situations over the past year where you had to manage conflict such as buying and selling of debts, re-financing of loans etc. – although this may not be your calling at the moment, it could have benefited you financially. This month, be a little careful who to trust with your money and friendship as Neptune, the planet of illusion, has his eye on these areas in your life. Instead, use this energy to follow your intuition.

Have a gainful month, Cancer!

May 2013 horoscope - Leo

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th August to 15th September or Leo Ascendants and Moons

By Louise Gilbert

Leo, this time of the year is always a bit like a spring awakening and this time around, you may be feeling a particular urge to start afresh, to be optimistic to look into the future and to broaden your horizons. You may be planning a long-haul trip to a place you always wanted to go and visit – basically, you’re up for an adventure. Alternatively, you may feel you’re being drawn back to school, keen to learn something new that stretches your understanding of the world, religion, spirituality, and at the same time strengthens your belief. This is a good time to sign up for a course that furthers your skills. The only thing holding you back at the moment is the fact that you may be a little bit caught up in your own mind. Saturn is going through your 3rd house of the ideas, skills, mind and communication and is opposing the stellium in your expansive 9th house, so you may feel as though you don’t have the right tools or head space to take on and consider new thoughts and perspectives. However, in May 2013, you have the chance to move away from any self-imposed narrow-mindedness you may have experienced in the past months –as these are not typically a Leo traits. At the same, this certain rigidity in the way you think can now also help you with work projects that require a lot of concentrated thinking and a careful approach. In particular with Saturn being retrograde, you may have to go over old details again and again.

Saturn also looks after your relationships, so you may spend a lot of time thinking about your relationships and even embark on some online dating during this time – especially as the eclipses hit your communication axis together with Saturn who rules your committed partnerships.

So, the first week in May with the stellium in Aries promises a lot of quick action and reaction, determination and hopefully progress in the area to do with teaching, learning, publishing and mentoring. Although there may still be some obstacles and some pushing and pulling in this area – is you are in publishing, your editor wants you to go over a paragraph for the 10th time, if you are writing a dissertation, your prof may want you to expand on a certain point and if you are about to go on a trip then it turns out that your car needs to have some work done after the MOT! So, there may still be some delay and sorting out some details but all of this is leading up to a quite nice solar eclipse in Aries this month which in addition to another lunar eclipse on 25th May, takes place on 10th May. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon stands between the Sun and Earth. This is the time for you to kick start and initiate plans around travelling, learning and making new experiences.

This solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Bharani, ruled by the Venus, which will be transiting through her own sign of Taurus. The nakshatra of Bharani has an understanding and a sixth sense for the acquisition of accrued wealth but this nakshatra also represents the person who ‘carries and bears’ and highlights the consequences of our actions. For you this may mean that although new opportunities around learning and teaching appear, it could at the same time result in more responsibility for you or the consequences of decisions in these areas made now run deeper.

We have an unusually large cluster of planets travelling together these days and in May, one by one, The Sun, Mercury and Venus move on to join Jupiter in your house of career and profession. After approximately the 10th May, it’s all about career and vocation for you. What is it you truly want and which of the opportunities Jupiter’s arrival in your 10th house has given you are the ones to seriously consider now and commit to them? Are you really happy to stay in your 9-5 job or are you ready to go it alone? Perhaps your children’s demands and your partner’s health and / or financial situation meant that moving forward with your dreams had to be put somewhat on hold as you dedicated time to their needs? Well, in May 2013, it’s about where you are headed and about your life direction. For most of the month, Mars is in his own sign and so is Venus, a combination that means you have the ‘get up, go and get it’, the broad view as well as the ‘luck’ to attract what you want into our lives. So, for you this relates to your job and career. If you have been actively looking for another job - perhaps to bring a little more stability back into your finances -, May looks like a promising month. If you are in discussions with a potential employer, the time around the lunar eclipse on 25th May will be an opportunity for you to make a decision and accept an offer as all the cards are on the table. Usually, May always brings some focus on career and job for you, this year, however, it’s with a double dose due to Jupiter expansive influence over this area in your chart and the lunar eclipse at the end of May 2013. So, not only do these transits refer to better job prospects if you are looking, as a Leo, you prefer to be in the driving seat so a promotion in an existing job could be part of the picture. Neptune’s dreamy influence on your house of one-to-ones also opened you up for more romance and creativity but if the dreamy feeling and overly romantic perspective threatens to overtake, your point of view can easily become unrealistic and even delusional. This means that if you are about to go into business with someone else, keep your eyes and ears open and if necessary bring in the help of a neutral, third-party. More money is coming your way over the course of the next 12 month, be sure to invest it in the right venture and people from the start!

Have a personal peak this month, Leo!
