January 2014 horoscope - Aries

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 14th April to 15th May or Aries Ascendants or Moons

Aries, for you, the past year has been a somewhat challenging one when it comes to close and intimate relations. You’ve had your fair share of obstacles and difficult situations to deal with but ultimately, it was a learning curve and for some, hopefully a liberating experience. You’re not quite at the end of that particular road just yet as Saturn, the great taskmaster, still badgers those Aries born around 10th to 15th May and those with Aries Ascendants and Moons at around 25 – 30 degrees in this sign. Saturn restricts and limits but all he wants you to do is focus on the essentials. He gives you what you need which may not be what you want right now. At the same time, Rahu or the North node may have brought people to you whose sudden presence in your life felt fated. However, in recent weeks, things may have felt a little intense with so many planets transiting through your 8th house of secrets, your partner’s money and all in the sign of Scorpio. As the New Year, begins, the mood shifts a little and you’ll be able to see the bigger picture and regain a sense of optimism. Travel is on the cards too and so is anything to with writing and publishing and you making a bit of money from it. It may take a little while to come through but it’s there for the taking. Your subject of choice may be, again, travelling, education, religion, spirituality or your own pearls of wisdom you want to share with the world.

The new Moon on 1st January in this area of your chart is a time to grow, explore, and expand beyond your everyday experiences. The New Moon here may bring some restlessness and dissatisfaction with regular routines. Make an effort to initiate new projects or activities that expand your mind. For some of you, mentoring and teaching little ones can also feature more strongly now.

This new Moon is in the nakshatra of Purva Ashadha, The Invincible Star. It is ruled by Venus and is quite a high-achieving nakshatra. It signifies the ability to convince others, generate wealth and think quickly on one’s feet. The only downside is that we may adopt a know-it-all, preaching attitude, especially with Pluto and Mercury in Sagittarius, the sign of the preacher. For you, especially, it takes place in the house of mentoring and teaching, so try not to be too opinionated. If you pass on your advice in measures, this can be the time when you can receive the recognition for it – perhaps in financial terms.

If you are in a relationship, you and your partner feel comfortable with each other and in fact, he may the one passing on some sound advice to you. For those who are single and looking, romance and relationships are serious business these days but the best chances of meeting someone this month crystallise while you’re on the road - I don’t mean to the local supermarket. Hop on a plane, get some winter sun or take up a hobby that opens your world to different and new people.

Now, two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus. Venus is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter, your ruler, until mid-March. During retrograde periods, the planets are said to become stronger and the areas touched by the two planets are coming into even more focus. The reason for this is that during a retrograde period, we have to repeat things, gain a new perspective, re-do, adjust and modify. We have to go through the same exercise a couple of times before we can move on but when the results then materialise, expect them to be solid – by the time the planets move forward again and cross the degree on which they went retrograde, you will have had enough time to make the right choice and think about the right decision. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, both of the retrograde phases shouldn’t cause too much damage. The only thing you may need to be aware of is that your finances could receive a bit of a knock but nothing that you won’t be able to recover once Venus turns direct again on 1st February and then zooms into stabilising Capricorn over the course of next month.

The full Moon on 16th January is in Cancer in the area in your chart to do with your home, mother, past, living environment and emotional security, which a home often provides. Whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close now. If you’ve been trying to sell or move, this might be the time when you can finally move on from what’s been holding you back. Temporarily, it could be your finances but not in the longer-term.

The second new Moon we have this month happens on 31st January and in the area of your chart to do with your career, reputation and social status can be decision, negotiation and deal-making time for you that in turn has an impact on what going on at home…watch this space. Have a great month, Aries!

January 2014 horoscope - Taurus

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th May to 15th June of Taurus Ascendants and Moons

Taurus, you begin 2014 with a stellium in your 8th house of all things hidden. It’s a place where things change suddenly and without much notice and it an area in your chart that has to do with other people’s resources, bank loans, insurance and inheritance matters as well as tax. It’s also a place where intimacy becomes important and a closer relationship with your partner. To some extent it’s a slightly intangible place where we are looking more inwards than outwards and are pre-occupied with how our mind and those of others works. So the more you think about the psychology behind certain situations and what motivates people, the more insight you have and hopefully compassion for what’s happening around you and in other people’s lives. This can be a spiritually cleansing time for Taureans. Equally, others may come to you now to look for some counsel.

When it comes to finances, this can be a very profitable time for you as you and your partner or family pool your resources together. It may be that some Taureans now have to look after the family assets and manage properties, wills and land and deal with the necessary paperwork. The new Moon on 1st January is a time to start looking closely at all the details that need to be sorted out. This is also a time to start a savings plan and start consolidating. Many Taureans have been in a fortunate financial position for most of the year and although there will have been some challenges, overall, it’s been profitable. Now is a time to look into investing your hard earned pennies.

As the month goes on, Mercury and the Sun move into your house of travel, higher education, spirituality and religion. It is also the area ion your chart to do with publishing, mentoring and teaching. You may be researching certain topics in more detail and more depth or you are simply starting to capitalise on what you know. Taureans are organised people so perhaps you are already planning your summer holidays at this time. In any case, the second half of January looks to be a slightly more light-hearted time than the previous few weeks have been with you not so much focusing on the small, niggly details but the bigger picture instead. This helps you put things into perspective.

Two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus, your ruler. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, for you, this also means that financial matters remain firmly on the agenda for the time being and require your attention.

The full Moon on 16th January is in Cancer in the place in your chart to do with new skills, manual work, self-made business, your own efforts, sales, team work, communication, short-distance travels and those in your immediate environment. Whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close. So with quite a bit of activity going on at the other end of this spectrum – i.e. long-distance travel, long-term and higher education and new perspectives, this could be a busy time when you complete a training course, a research project or pass your driving test. Whatever is happening now also has an impact on your finances so, for example, if you pass some sort of a test now, you may be able to apply for another job more easily with a pay rise as part of the deal. The end of the month and in February especially is a time when your professional life and the direction of it is becoming of increasing interest to you.

Now, for Taureans looking for love, this month can pose a couple of challenges but nevertheless also provides at least some opportunities. Mars in your house of romance makes you eager to meet someone and for some, this could happen quite quickly. If you are indeed going on a late January holiday, this could be an option or while you’re in the library working on your research project. Mars is involved in the Grand Cross I talked about previously pretty much for most of the first half of 2014 so this influence is not an easy one but nevertheless, for the time being, can offer some opportunities for romance to patient Taureans and those with excellent diplomatic skills. Have a great month, Taurus!

January 2014 horoscope - Gemini

I follow the Vedic calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th June to 15th July or Gemini Ascendants and Moons

Gemini, close relationships, one-to-one partnerships, intimacy, shared resources and mutual agreements are the key topics for you this month. For many Geminis, the past years have brought many more or less intense but always transformative experiences around relationships which now and over the next few months seem to be culminating in a very committed partnership. As the New Year begins, you have a stellium of planets – the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Pluto – in your area to do with marriage and committed relationships, so it almost seems like you can’t get away from dealing with partnership dynamics, discussing yours and their needs as well as, hopefully, establishing clear and healthy boundaries. The latter may not be so easy with Pluto in the same part of your chart which can make things seem overly intense to the point of obsession. Geminis are not usually the manipulative or possessive types, however, if your partner has these tendencies, make sure you don’t ignore it.

Single Geminis should be spoilt for choice this month or you might want to make a decision to stay or go. Saturn, the taskmaster, has been in the area of your chart to do with romance and fun for over a year so light hearted liaisons have not been your cup of tea in recent times anyway, so making a commitment or finding someone who doesn’t run for the hills at the thought could come to you more easily. That’s why the start to the New Year is so great for Geminis and their partnerships. The new Moon on 1st January takes place in this area in your chart and this is usually seen as a favourable time to begin a new relationship or to re-define existing ones. It’s a new 2.5-year phase that opens up many new doors in this area for you. There may be an increased awareness of the need for someone significant to lean on.

The same goes for business partnerships and other situations where you deal with people on a one-to-one basis. During these early days of 2014, money could be a talking point with your business partner.

For you, again, this has to do with partnerships, so don’t try and preach to your loved one during this time. If you are in position where you have to deal with the public in some way and in a professional capacity, now this may be a different story…

Two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus. Venus is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter, who rules your career and relationships, until mid-March. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, I don’t think, these two retrograde phases are causing you much trouble. I think in your case, both make the relationship issue / topic an even more pressing one!

Around mid-month, the planets are start moving into your house of intimacy and shared resources or your partner’s resources. This can mean several things depending where you are and what else is happening around you and within you. This area is a place where things can happen quite quickly and suddenly. Some Geminis are keen to deepen the bond with their loved one, others are looking for more intimacy in relationships or intimacy full stop. Others are applying for a bank loan (other people’s money!) to fund their new business idea. Some may have already done so and by the time of the full Moon on 16th January finances are the topic of the day. Whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close. This could be a long, drawn out process around your resources and those of others, you owing money to someone else, questions around what’s yours and what’s mine and to some extent your sense of security that’s often provided through a stable home life.

The month ends with the second new Moon on 31st January 2014 is the perfect time to start implementing a new financial plan, potentially with your partner, or, if it is related to business, the bank to provide you with the funds for your creative endeavours. Have a great month, Gemini!

January 2014 horoscope - Cancer

I follow the Vedic calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th July to 15th August or Cancer Ascendants and Moons

Cancer, it’s a hectic start to the year and you may feel as though you’ve not had a break at all over the Christmas period, probably because you made sure everything at home remains on the straight and narrow over this period. The new Moon on 1st January in the area in your chart to do with your daily routines, health, wellbeing and disagreements is a push to initiate a new routine, habit or processes of some sort. It is a time of taking care of business, handling details, and increasing your efficiency by re-organising your paperwork. It is also a good time for self-analysis. This period is marked by a desire to sort things out and to be useful. The Moon phases for Cancerians are connected to self-development, self-value, possessions and your earned income. This can be a time of renewed focus on these areas too. The new Moon is in the nakshatra of Purva Ashadha, The Invincible Star. For you, this could temporarily affect your relationship with work colleagues or those around you if you’re not careful.

Then, two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, Jupiter is transiting an area in your chart to do with intuition and dreams as well as foreign places. Some of you may want to travel further afield than they ever have over the next year, while others may want to look into taking a higher education course in another country or on a quite spiritual topic. Venus retrograde starts off in your house of committed relationships where you could be discussing issues around the home, your parents or more broadly speaking, the sense of security you get from the relationship.

By the time the full Moon on 16th January in your own sign comes round, you’ll be the centre of attention and this also includes your needs in a relationships. Your most intimate partnerships can be discussed now and you’re keen on structured and solid outcomes of your conversations. Whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close and if there have been ongoing situations around your relationship – including your finances – these can be resolved now or at least you’re getting closer to a solution that best for both of you. If you are single, this is a time when you’re opening up to others a lot more – maybe standing in the limelight for a few days helps…In any case, the second half of the month is dedicated to solidifying relationships and establishing your needs in relationships.

The second new Moon on 31st January 2014 introduces a new cycle in relationships, just in time for Venus to light up your relationship sector in February and March. Have a great month, Cancer!

January 2014 horoscope - Leo

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th August to 15th September or Leo Ascendants and Moons

Leo as the New Year begins, you should be in your element. You should be feeling optimistic, full of drive to start the year while enjoying the company of good friends. You’re full of charisma now which will have a benefic effect especially at work. Some Leos who have children are also spending more time with them and generally, you can have a really nice time with your family. Equally, this can be a time when you decide to initiate some DIY improvements around the home or, if you are so inclined simply be quite creative. Ever thought about putting pen to paper and start writing your memoirs or keep a diary? You seem to be inclined to so now.

This is also a time to make announcements and some Leos may have some happy news about children!

Single Leos are in the mood for some romance early on in the month and the timely new Moon on 1st January introduces new opportunities in this area. The potential romantic interest could be from a different cultural background to you and although the focus on travelling and holidays is not too strong, you may come across this person as you’re out and about, meeting friends or pursuing your hobbies. You’re happy to let your guard down during these early days of the year so letting new people into your life comes more easily.

In your case, this new Moon takes place in your 5th house which also has to do with teaching and mentoring others, so be careful not to be too self-righteous during this time.

Then, two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus. Venus is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter until mid-March. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….For you, this retrograde period does not have any major, tangible consequences. In your case, these coming for weeks could be a time when certain long-term projects are put on hold – perhaps you are waiting for the funds to come through, a plan to be approved or colleagues need to return from their holidays before things get going again. Before you know it, the holiday season seems like a long time ago and work starts getting quite busy again. You’ll have a lot on your plate from the second half of the month so much so that by the time the full Moon comes round on 16th January, it’s time to have a rest. Perhaps you are reviewing the past two years or so and what has changed since then. Some of you are thinking about implementing their New Year resolutions now – it’s a good time to change some habits that seem outdated and that’s includes certain eating habits and exercise regimes. This area aspected in your chart is also one where we react more easily to conflict so you may now think about different ways to approach and solve issues and conflicts in your environment.

The second new Moon on 31st January 2014 is then the perfect time to start implementing your new health regimes, it may be you have no other choice :)…others may find that their work is finally picking up and you your back on the treadmill, hopefully with renewed energy and focus! Have a great month, Leo!

January 2014 horoscope - Virgo

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th September to 15th October or Virgo Ascendants and Moons

Virgo, your home is your castle this month – at least for the first half – as you are firmly focused on what’s happening in and around the house. Some of you may still be enjoying some quality time with family even after the holiday season has finished or you are now dealing with certain changes going on in this area on your life. Some of the things that seem to stand out involves things like property purchases, remortgages or home sales. Mars in your own sign aspecting the area on your chart to do with your home – amongst others – while Mercury, your ruler and the planet of communication and commerce, transits the same part of your chart. So, if you have been looking for new place to live or are thinking of selling up then early January provides excellent opportunities for you to get going and start putting things into place. The new Moon – on of two this month! – on 1st January falls into exactly this area in your chart as you are keen to see things around your home fall into place. This will not only reinforce your sense of security in the months to come but you feel as though the foundations of your life are becoming a little more solid again. Much of this sense of security may have eroded over the past months, however, you sorting out your living situation also means your emotional life benefits from this potential spring clean. Virgos that dutifully followed Saturn’s lessons and started a savings plan may now be able to put this to good use and spend it, for example, on property projects. Some Virgo may also decide to work from home or make home-related projects a priority.

Two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus. Venus is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter, the ruler of the area to do with your relationships AND your home until mid-March. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward…In any case, AGAIN, from what I can tell, a lot of what‘s happening in the first half of the month at least, related to house and home and you trying to figure out your next steps. For some Virgos, these early-January 2014 transits can also have to do with your parents’ home and you helping to solve important matters.

After mid-month, the planets are shifting and your mind is more on having a bit of fun, romance and the focus is on your children or other ‘creations’, potentially of the literary sort. This can mean you’re coming out of a more inward looking period and you’re spending more time with your friends and acquaintances – especially around the time of the full Moon on 16th January is in Cancer in the area of your chart to do with friends, acquaintances, business contacts and bonuses. This can be a busy, social time with parties to attend and if they are work-related, you’re able to make some new contacts, perhaps via a long-term project that lands on your desk. The second new Moon on 31st January 2014 falls into your house of romance, fun and children, giving your romantic life a kick-start…if you are looking, then make use the energies of the second half of the month, the chances to get introduced to a few new people are looking good, which also increases your chances of meeting a potential match. Have a great month, Virgo!

January 2014 horoscope - Libra

I follow the Vedic calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th October to 15th November or Libra Ascendants and Moons

Venus, although two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and your ruler Venus, there are nevertheless a number of bursts of activity taking place in everyone’s chart with two new Moons – one on 1st, the other one on 31st January 2014. Usually, there is only one new Moon in a month but these two ring in new beginnings in two different areas while the full Moon brings an 18-month cycle to an end.

Now, the first one of the new Moons introduces the New Year on 1st January and takes place in the area of your chart to do with travelling, communication, siblings, selling yourself and your ideas, promoting your own business and generally speaking your own efforts. The first half of January seems like a busy time for you! All three of your travel houses are activated at the moment, so for some Libras, New Year celebrations may take place in a place other than home. The first new Moon of 2014 in a very timely manner takes place on the first day of the year and in exactly this area of your chart. It’s a peak time for general busy-ness, team working, collaborating, learning something new, meeting a few new people and developing a mental connection with others. It’s a great time to launch a new venture or start a training course of some sort. In some cases, you may the one teaching and mentoring others – you’ll be surprised about how much you learn about yourself and other people. It’s one of those times when phone calls and emails will be coming through non-stop. Overall, however, I feel that this time period for many Libras has to do with being abroad or making plans to go abroad, perhaps even for a longer period of time. This is something to remember for you in particular as the new Moon is in your 3rd house of communication…

So, Venus, your ruler, is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter until mid-March. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, Venus AND Jupiter retrograde in your two travel houses can mean you are returning to a certain place, getting in touch with old friends or reviewing certain long-held plans. Again, some Libras may decide to earn their money abroad for a little with your career coming into focus on 16th January during the full Moon in Cancer. After 1 ½ years of Saturn in your sign, a little break and some new faces around you may be just what you need. Just don’t make any rush decision as long as your ruler Venus is going backwards, you might change your mind again later on.

The month then ends with the second new Moon on 31st January 2014 and this is the time to start thinking about house and home and where that should be…This is also the time to put your property on the market if you’re looking to make a buck. Have a great month, Libra!

January 2014 horoscope - Scorpio

I follow the sidereal/Vedic calendar; this is the January 2014 horoscope for birthdays from 16th November to 15th December or Scorpio Ascendants and Moons

Scorpio, for the first half of the month it’s all about money, perhaps a pay rise at work, also other people’s money such as bank loans, family money and matters, investments, insurance deals and tax. For a few weeks now, you’ve been investing your energies into new projects that you’re hoping turn out to be profitable for you. Right on the 1st January of the New Year, there is a new Moon in the area of your chart to do with your income, values and possessions. With Pluto, the planet of transformation involved, it can be quite an intense but progressive time for you. This is a new opportunity to increase your income but equally, you may be a little too tempted by the January sales and spend on items that you don’t necessarily need at this time. You can be a little impulsive at the moment (actually for the next few months) so your purse may sit a little loose in your pocket this month. But generally speaking, a new Moon tends to be an opportunity to streamline and get your finances under control. It’s certainly a time to discuss your financial situation with others and this includes your family and partner. Your family in general may be a source of a bit of tension early on in the month. The new Moon together with the Sun, Pluto and Mercury square up to Uranus and Mars while Jupiter, the planet that blows everything out of proportion is in opposition….if money comes into play, wait until mid-month when things are a little calmer.

After mid-month, things get a little less intense but busy. Your commercial skills are shining through now and part of your commercial success is down to how you sell yourself now. This is a time to be out and about, meet and greet, make new contacts and present your ideas. Needless to say that this is an excellent time if you own your own business – it’s good time to get in touch and start asking those around you with the right knowledge for the help you need. Trying to make your mark on the world, reaching out to others, drafting up plans, putting your website together – all of this can also mean you’re out and about more than usual, running from one meeting to another. In any case, you’re simply learning something new along the way over these next few weeks – some of you may have been taking the learning experience more seriously or are beginning to do so now. The full Moon on 16th January is in Cancer in your house of higher learning and understanding and brings an 18-month cycle to an end. So whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close. This can be an actual higher education course itself or for those who are just now beginning to go down this route, it can mark the end of any hesitations you may have had to try something new. The second new Moon on 31st January 2014 is then the perfect time to start implementing your new business plans, apply for a new course or launch your new venture. Exciting times.

Now, two planets are moving backwards in the sky this month, Venus is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter until mid-March. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, for you this concerns your relationships on the one hand and your finances on the other. Venus moves backwards in your money house while Jupiter is going retrograde in the area of the zodiac to do with bank loans, family money and your partner’s resources. This does not mean that none is available but for the time being, you may need to take a closer look at how much you spend. In terms of your relationships, you could see someone at a distance coming back to you or if you are in a relationship, your current partner may have to deal with some financial issues of his own, in a positive or negative sense. Although you could certainly meet quite a number of new people now, it feels like a lot of effort while spring 2014 is looking like the better time period to let romance come to you. Have a great month, Scorpio!

January 2014 horoscope - Sagittarius

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the January 2014 horoscope for birthdays from 16th December to 14th January or Sagittarius Ascendants and Moons

Sagittarius, it’s still your birthday month and usually at this time of the year, you are full of energy, looking forward to the next 12 months. Not that this isn’t necessarily the case this month, or this year I should say, but you may feel as though you are under quite a bit of pressure. This affects mainly those born around 30th December to 5th January or with their Ascendants and Moons at around 14 to 20 degrees of Sagittarius. Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, is hovering around those degrees at the moment which in itself is a challenging transit. This time period is intense, mainly because you are asked to break down illusion of any kind in the search for your own truth. For some, there is fear – of the unknown – involved as you know you are changing and going through a deep transformation. What this eventually looks like is yet to be seen but you know you’re on the verge of a new phase in your life.

Now, the areas affected are the most fundamental ones in life. Pluto transit affects how you view the world and the world sees you (in a new light). You’re in the spotlight this month, you’re attractive, charming if you want to be. If you are single, use this transit to your advantage! The new Moon on 1st January in your own sign is helpful for you to almost take that first step into your new life. Again, although it may not feel like that now, you’ll see it more clearly in six to nine months’ time. For now, it’s time to reinvent yourself and think about what and maybe who you belief in.

Then, the current challenges (or of course opportunities) also affect your relationships. Many Sagittarians are currently keener than ever to tie the knot or at least find a long-term partner that shares their view of the world. Finding this special someone is a distinct possibility these days, the only thing is that your ruler Jupiter is currently moving backwards. So at least until March, your liaisons with others come under review and need tweaking. Venus, the planet which generally rules love, is also retrograde this month, so a lot of what has to do with romance and partnership is under review. Generally speaking, during retrograde periods, the planets are said to become stronger and the area touched by the retrograde planet is coming into even more focus. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….So apart from relationships, for you, the Venus retrograde has an impact on your finances. If you’ve been spending too much on Christmas presents or hit the January sales, you’ll be feeling it, especially around the time of the full Moon on 16th January when you may be reminded of your overdraft limits. More broadly speaking, whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close. For some, this could mean paying off some debts or settling a financial matter within your family or with your spouse. The second new Moon this month, on 31st January, is then the perfect time to start thinking about your finances and how, moving forward, you can get them back on track. Have a great month, Sagittarius!

January 2014 horoscope - Capricorn

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the Capricorn January 2014 horoscope for birthdays from 15th January to 12th February or Capricorn Ascendants and Moons

Capricorn, as the New Year begins, you may have the impression that it’s a pretty quiet start to 2014. Not much is moving at work at the moment, you may be waiting for budgets to be signed off, plans need to be reviewed or others have taken a longer vacation than you. Therefore, you’ll be more inclined to go within, be by yourself a bit more and shut yourself off from the world. You need to be alone now to regain some of your energy and get ready to rumble come mid-January.

And so the New Year begins in a timely manner with a new Moon in the sign just before yours on 1st January. This new Moon in your house of letting go, intuition and foreign places always happens at around this time of the year. This year however, Pluto in this area of your chart squaring up to Uranus, the planet of sudden changes, makes for a strong undercurrent. Like the other cardinal signs, your task is to become more flexible, change or rather ‘progress’ the way you think and let go of old habits. This doesn’t happen overnight but in stages. The new Moon in Sagittarius is yet another stage in your development to get rid of your outdated thought patterns and subconscious expectations. So, this is a time of some sort of retreat either physically or just mentally – you may be on holiday, travelling with work or you may (mentally) seem a little absent to those around, or both!

Although two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and Venus, there are nevertheless a number of bursts of activity taking place in everyone’s chart with not just one new Moon but two the other one taking place on 31st January 2014. Both time periods introduce new beginnings in two different areas while the full Moon on 16th January brings an 18-month cycle to an end.

So, Venus is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter, the planet of expansion, until mid-March. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, for you, this has to with your day to day work, your career and perhaps, you re-building your life which has seen some major changes (and hopefully also progress) this year.

But it’s not all about work for you this month as the full Moon on 16th January is in Cancer and in your area to do with relationships. Whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close. This can include a situation with your partner that you weren’t happy with, a living situation that wasn’t ideal, your partner’s financial situation that wasn’t too helpful or a business partnership that needed smoothening out. If you are single, the chances to meet someone new are a lot better from the summer but nevertheless, this is a time of heightened sensitivity around the subject and some of you may make that extra little bit of effort to but themselves in the right place at the right time…this might not be a bad idea, as, come February, you’ll feel a lot more attractive and outgoing than you do for the most part of January. The second new Moon on 31st January 2014 is then the perfect time to re-emerge from hibernation and your spiritual retreat. It’s in your own sign and your personal new beginning and one that especially impacts and benefits your relationships. Have a great month, Capricorn!

January 2014 horoscope - Aquarius

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the January 2014 astrology forecast for birthdays from 13th February to 14th March or Aquarius Ascendants and Moons

Aquarius, as the year begins, you seem to be in a fairly good mood. You’re out and about catching up with friends, perhaps making holiday plans for the year, generally thinking about the future. This also includes your financial future and that of your partner. You’ll like the energy of early January, which begins with a new Moon on 1st January in the area to do with connecting with others, group activities, investing in a good cause, developing an idea or representing an ideology. This is the part of the zodiac traditionally associated with the sign of Aquarius, so it seems as though you’re in your element, perhaps working on a humanitarian or fundraising project, a political cause or any other long-term plans where you can apply your intellect and understanding of how systems of all kind work and can be managed. Although Pluto’s intensity in this area of your chart does not sit so well with you generally speaking, it can give you an immense amount of power or powerful friends and acquaintances form part of your long-term plans now.

So, the new Moon in this area of your chart is a great time to network with some of these powerful associates or reconnect with to initiate any kind of plans which, further down the line boost your profits. You see yourself part of a group now and it seems to be easier than during other months to connect with others.

If you are single, then this new Moon could also be a new beginning when it comes to romantic liaisons – who knows, someone you meet at a party could turn into a love interest over the next few weeks. And by the time your birthday comes, you may be looking at this one in a more serious way. If you are in a relationship, then your partner may be the one connecting you to those in authority and power, helping you to build your business.

For you, again, this has to do with those you identify and associate yourself with. You still have Jupiter, the planet of expansion looking at this area of your chart, however, he is moving backwards at the moment until mid-March 2014. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, there are still plenty of opportunities to grow your social circle, expand your business and work on your marketing plans.

The other planet moving backwards for the whole month is Venus. Generally speaking, Venus is the planet that rules love and money, however, in your case, this retrograde period has more to do with your sense of security and the way you think, view the world and what you believe in. It’s been a busy period for you and as you get closer to the end of your solar year, it’s part of the natural astrological process to want to withdraw a little. Especially after mid-month, you’re partying and networking days seem to be slowing down a little – you just need to get your energy back. The need for privacy can temporarily also impact your relationships in the sense that you may seem a little absent to your other half now.

Even though there seems to be this apparent slowdown of activities, the two new Moons this month –the second one takes place on 31st January 2014 - ring in new beginnings in two different areas while the full Moon brings an 18-month cycle to an end. The full Moon takes place on 16th January is in Cancer in your solar 6th house of health, co-workers and generally your place of work. Whatever began in July 2012 is coming to a close and, for example, if you have had any long-term health issues (or imbalances of some sort) to deal with, you may be closer to sorting these out than you think. Imbalances can of course also have to do with relationships – anywhere where two people are involved, there is a constant need for re-adjustments – and this month, you’re keen to come to a compromise that suits the both of you. The second new Moon on 31st January is then a fairly subtle one for you where you need to listen to your intuition, let go of outdated modes of thinking and approaching relationship issues. This is a good time to contemplate the way you react when debates gets heated. Have a great month, Aquarius!
