January 2014 horoscope - Libra

I follow the Vedic calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16^th October to 15^th November or Libra Ascendants and Moons

Venus, although two planets are retrograde this month, Jupiter and your ruler Venus, there are nevertheless a number of bursts of activity taking place in everyone’s chart with two new Moons – one on 1^st, the other one on 31^st January 2014. Usually, there is only one new Moon in a month but these two ring in new beginnings in two different areas while the full Moon brings an 18-month cycle to an end.

Now, the first one of the new Moons introduces the New Year on 1^st January and takes place in the area of your chart to do with travelling, communication, siblings, selling yourself and your ideas, promoting your own business and generally speaking your own efforts. The first half of January seems like a busy time for you! All three of your travel houses are activated at the moment, so for some Libras, New Year celebrations may take place in a place other than home. The first new Moon of 2014 in a very timely manner takes place on the first day of the year and in exactly this area of your chart. It’s a peak time for general busy-ness, team working, collaborating, learning something new, meeting a few new people and developing a mental connection with others. It’s a great time to launch a new venture or start a training course of some sort. In some cases, you may the one teaching and mentoring others – you’ll be surprised about how much you learn about yourself and other people. It’s one of those times when phone calls and emails will be coming through non-stop. Overall, however, I feel that this time period for many Libras has to do with being abroad or making plans to go abroad, perhaps even for a longer period of time. This new Moon is in the nakshatra of Purva Ashadha, The Invincible Star. It is ruled by Venus and is quite a high-achieving nakshatra. It signifies the ability to convince others, generate wealth and think quickly on one’s feet. The only downside is that we may adopt a know-it-all, preaching attitude, especially with Pluto and Mercury in Sagittarius, the sign of the preacher. This is something to remember for you in particular as the new Moon is in your 3^rd house of communication…

So, Venus, your ruler, is retrograde for the whole of January 2014 and Jupiter until mid-March. During retrograde periods, the planets are said to become stronger and the areas touched by the two planets are coming into even more focus. The reason for this is that during a retrograde period, we have to repeat things, gain a new perspective, re-do, adjust and modify. We have to go through the same exercise a couple of times before we can move on but when the results then materialise, expect them to be solid – by the time the planets move forward again and cross the degree on which they went retrograde, you will have had enough time to make the right choice and think about the right decision. Hence, you’ll be able to choose the right path to move forward….In any case, Venus AND Jupiter retrograde in your two travel houses can mean you are returning to a certain place, getting in touch with old friends or reviewing certain long-held plans. Again, some Libras may decide to earn their money abroad for a little with your career coming into focus on 16^th January during the full Moon in Cancer. After 1 ½ years of Saturn in your sign, a little break and some new faces around you may be just what you need. Just don’t make any rush decision as long as your ruler Venus is going backwards, you might change your mind again later on.

The month then ends with the second new Moon on 31^st January 2014 and this is the time to start thinking about house and home and where that should be…This is also the time to put your property on the market if you’re looking to make a buck. Have a great month, Libra!
