Moon in the signs - Cancer

Over-protective and overly emotional

This Moon sign needs to be needed, it needs to be protect and be protected from all the dangers and mean-ness of the world. Nurturing others and caretaking are second nature to the sensitive crab who is the ultimate parent and ‘shelter giver’. Someone with this placement as a fundamental drive to create a safe secure nest where the young‘uns – regardless of their age – can find refuge until they are ready to fly the nest. Moon in Cancer is the sign of the ultimate home maker who creates a traditional home environment for themselves and their loved ones.

At work, this could be the person who nurtures and especially who feeds others and, for example, takes on the graduates to help them shape their career while at the same time creating almost a family environment for them to flower.

Cancer also rules our roots and with the Moon in this sign, someone can also be tremendously patriotic and a defender of one’s cultural values and cultural background.

The Moon in Cancer is a very impressionable sign and one that absorbs outside influences very easily. They don’t always communicate their emotional needs – they often don’t even need to say anything, their body language and the look on their face says it all -, however, what is crucial here is that often with this placement, it is hard for a person to truly find emotional safety and a feeling of security. Therefore, they will always carry on strengthening their defences, their territory and fortress. Their need to protect can easily turn into over-protection out of a sense of guilt that however caring they’ve been, it doesn’t seem to be enough - in their opinion.

Eva Peron
Eva Peron, the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until 1952, had her Moon in Cancer together with the planet Saturn, the ruler of the area in her chart to do with career. For her, dedicating herself to her home land and her roots was her career, caring for her countrymen and women was her vocation.
