Mercury in the signs - Capricorn

Structured and full of concentration

With Mercury in Capricorn, thoughts and ideas are expressed through a conventional, dogmatic, mentally rigid, or culturally limited perspective. A person with this placement may also prefer to follow previously approved and socially acceptable viewpoints rather than expressing their unique ideas. As such, there may be a mental resistance towards developing and thinking through new ideas, in particular if Saturn aspects Mercury too.

Nevertheless, this is an excellent placement for a school teacher or someone who works in a bureaucratic environment where a structure and disciplined approach to communicating and keeping administrative documents in order is required. This can be someone who is scarce with their words and who certainly doesn’t talk for the sake of it, embellishing stories with unnecessary detail.

Someone with this placement is likely to have a dry sense of humour that gets straight to the point and for some – also crosses the line. Mercury in Capricorn does not see the point in avoiding the truth, it should be told as it is.

However, Saturn is a slow moving planet so the thought processes of someone with this placement are not always they quickest. It take them a lot of time to digest information before filtering out only what is essential knowledge to keep. But once Mercury in Capricorn gets to the bottom of the topic, the realisation or information will stay with him forever. This is not someone with a short-term memory, someone with this Mercury will remember things!

This Mercury has authority, especially in later years and when he talks he is determined and convinced of the accuracy of the information – after all, he spent a lot of time verifying and checking the details. Above and beyond following the rules, Mercury in Capricorn want to make the rules – at work and in romance.

Martin Luther King, Jr. had his Mercury in Capricorn alongside the Sun.

Although his birth time seems unknown, the combination of these two planets already makes for a powerful and authoritarian figure – after all, it was him who delivered one of the most famous speeches the world has known to date.
